Three shipping companies are in discussion with Singapore to join the LA/LB green corridor

At the Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (Sibcon), the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) provided an update on the progress of green corridors. Japanese shipping companies MOL and K-Line, along with Singapore-based Hafnia, are expected to lead efforts to decarbonize and digitalize the Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) between Singapore and US West Coast ports.

Key goals include adopting net-zero fuels, Just-in-Time route optimization, and energy-efficient technologies like wind-assisted propulsion. MPA stated that these new partners would enhance the GDSC’s ability to drive sustainable shipping innovation and accelerate the use of zero/near-zero emission fuels and green technologies.

The GDSC between Singapore and Rotterdam has added new partners, GATE Terminal and Singapore LNG Terminal, to assist with bio-methane pilot trials. The GDSC anticipates demand for up to 5 million tonnes of green methane and methanol per year by 2028 for 200 vessels operating between Asia and Europe’s largest ports.

Additionally, Singapore has signed a GDSC with China’s Shandong province, supporting digital and green fuel collaboration in the Bohai and Yellow Sea region, alongside similar agreements with Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, and the US.
