Taiwan launches its first automated container terminal at Kaohsiung port

The terminal which has a depth of 18 m and a length of 2415 m, is Taiwan’s first utterly automated container terminal. It comprises five deep-water container berths that can accommodate four 24,000 teu super-large containership at a time.

The newly inaugurated terminal is equipped with unmanned vehicles, IoT, 5G, remote control, and AI systems that transform and enhance operational efficiency. A spokesperson at Evergreen commented that it will combine the operation of the fourth and fifth container terminals and transfer part of it to the newly inaugurated seventh terminal, which will significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve container handling efficiency.
