HMM has announced that its ‘Green Sailing Service’ will be utilized by IKEA Supply Chain Operations under a new agreement. This eco-friendly service substitutes fossil fuels with biofuels derived from waste, aiming to cut down IKEA’s CO2 emissions by 11,500 tonnes from March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025. This reduction corresponds to transporting approximately 14,535 TEU of cargo with zero emissions from Busan to Rotterdam.
IKEA is also engaged with Hapag-Lloyd’s ‘Ship Green 100’ initiative, which is projected to decrease the company’s carbon footprint by about 100,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. IKEA’s environmental objectives include slashing GHG emissions from product transport by 70% by 2030 and achieving zero emissions in heavy trucking and maritime shipping by 2040.
Earlier this year, HMM introduced its Green Sailing Service. An official from HMM stated their commitment to prioritising sustainable development, which is instrumental in advancing towards carbon neutrality.
