COSCO launches the China electric ship innovation alliance

COSCO, China’s largest shipping entity, has formed the China Electric Ship Innovation Alliance and around 80 companies and top national authorities have joined it. This amalgamation is developed to make China one of the world leaders in the electrification of shipping.

Till now Yantze has been the main company for China’s electric vessel development, but new ideas have been developed and COSCO is part of the bigger picture.

Last year a study was conducted by the Nature Energy Journal with respect to the economic and environmental benefits of direct electrification of containerships and it showed that there is a massive improvement in batteries that have revealed the possibility of electrifying big containerships today on voyages of up to 5,000 km.
