The Ministry of Finance, through the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), has notified Navi Mumbai and Noida International Airport (Jewar) as designated customs ports for import and export activities. The announcement was made via Notification No. 15/2025-Customs (N.T.), issued on March 24, 2025.

This amendment modifies Notification No. 61/94-Customs (N.T.), originally issued on November 21, 1994, by updating the list of official customs ports. The change has been made under Section 7(1) (a) and Section 7(2) of the Customs Act, 1962, granting these locations the authority to handle international cargo operations.

The inclusion of Navi Mumbai and Jewar as customs ports is part of India’s broader efforts to modernize its trade infrastructure. Navi Mumbai, with its strategic location near major industrial zones, is expected to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing ports, while Noida International Airport (Jewar) is being developed as a key air cargo hub in northern India.

Industry experts believe this move will streamline customs clearance processes, reduce transit times, and bolster India’s position as a global trade hub. The development is also expected to boost investment and logistics efficiency in both regions, supporting the country’s growing export sector.
