India and the United Kingdom have officially restarted negotiations for a trade agreement, as announced by India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and the UK’s Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds in Delhi. This decision follows discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at the G-20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.

Both nations share a strong partnership across multiple sectors, including security, technology, climate, health, education, and finance. The trade deal aims to further economic collaboration by fostering sustainable growth and strengthening business opportunities.

The two leaders have instructed negotiators to resolve pending issues and work towards a fair and balanced agreement that benefits both countries. Strengthening trade ties is expected to create new opportunities for businesses and consumers, reinforcing the deep economic relationship between India and the UK.
